Author: Dan Hooper Hardcover: 256 pages Publisher: Collins (November 21, 2006) Language: English ISBN-10: 006113032X Buy it from Amazon One of the hardest things for a non-physicist to do is wrap his or her mind around current concepts in modern cosmology and theoretical physics without sitting down and doing the math. Dan Hooper does an admiral job of explaining these concepts, with a slant toward the nature and search for dark matter. This book is very readable, it is both well written and the concepts are described in such a way that they make sense to the general reader. However, the book does suffer from a general lack of diagrams to illustrate some of the more hard to grasp ideas. One high point in the book is that it totally omits the usual mathematical equations that tend to sneak in and mire popular books on physics. Overall this book is well written with excellent explanations of very difficult to understand concepts. While it could have used more diagrams, I praise it for retaining its popular appeal by omitting the equations. If you want an overview of dark matter, dark energy, and a look at the field of cosmology, this book is highly recommended. J.M. Sinclair
